“Design is not what it looks like, but how it works.” Amplio Headquarters is a highly automated environment designed for a high-tech robotics and automation firm, conceived as a seamless combination of office, development laboratory, and manufacturing facility. Located within an industrial area near Budapest, the building deliberately avoids visual excess, instead expressing clarity, precision, and performance — values that lie at the core of Amplio’s work.
The headquarters plays a dual role: a functional workplace and a key interface for clients and partners. From the earliest stages, architecture was understood as an integral part of the company’s identity. Rather than relying on iconic form, the building reveals itself through use and movement. From certain angles it blends into its industrial surroundings, while from others it becomes more dynamic and expressive, echoing Amplio’s products, where technical efficiency and ergonomics generate their own kind of beauty.
This gradual transformation culminates at the entrance, where a six-meter cantilevered upper floor marks the main office level. Large glazed surfaces wrap around the building, offering views into the workspace and allowing visitors to sense the activity within. As the operational “brain” of the company, the office becomes visible, reinforcing transparency, energy, and innovation as part of Amplio’s brand language.
Designed during a period of rapid growth, the project embraced flexibility as a fundamental principle. A highly detailed BIM model was developed from early design phases and continuously refined throughout construction, allowing the building to adapt to evolving functional requirements. As a result, spaces are clearly defined yet multifunctional, enabling future change without compromising performance.
The same logic guided the interior design. Clean, industrial aesthetics combine with an honest expression of structure and systems. Exposed steel elements, concrete surfaces, and visible installations create a robust framework, complemented by contemporary office and meeting spaces. The building shell is conceived as a body, while the interiors function as its organs — each element precisely designed to support operation.
Automation is embedded throughout the headquarters. Lighting, heating, cooling, ventilation, shading, and access control are centrally managed through custom software developed by Amplio itself. The building responds dynamically to human presence, adjusting environmental conditions in real time to optimize comfort and energy use. Acoustic performance was carefully engineered, even within large open-plan office areas, ensuring a balanced working environment.
Inspired by Amplio’s own manufacturing processes, the headquarters ultimately functions as a finely tuned machine. Its architecture, spatial organization, and technical systems are driven by performance, adaptability, and efficiency — a built expression of the idea that design is defined not by appearance, but by how it works.
