The new headquarters of Bohn Kft., a Hungarian company specializing in civil engineering and infrastructure construction, offers a clear and restrained architectural response to its urban context, combining robust structural expression with a refined spatial and material language. The project was recognized as a winner of the Média Architecture Award, underlining its architectural quality and conceptual clarity.
Based on the professional work of Bohn Kft., the idea emerged almost immediately that our concept should “go underground” — meaning that the below-grade spaces, typically treated as secondary, should be given a greater architectural and functional role than usual. The image of looking directly at the raw reality of deep construction retaining structures through a wide window opening of an underground reinforced concrete space was formed from the very first moment, long before we knew what the building’s façade would look like.
The above-ground volume visible from the street continues and refines the language of the substructure, which prioritizes functionality and treats structural elements as primary architectural features. The regular, square-plan space is organized around a central reinforced concrete core that also houses the elevator. Offices and meeting rooms for the owners, as well as for the construction and design teams, are located on three standard floors and one rooftop level. On the north side, a floating, perforated staircase connects the levels, while the rest of the space remains structurally open and continuous.
